Mexico City. “I think Morena needs to be much more self-critical, the movement in general,” said Citlalli Hernández, head of the Women’s Secretariat, speaking with Los Periodistas about the murder of the Mayor of Uruapan, Carlos Manzo, a crime that the right wing is using to attack the Government of Claudia Sheinbaum.

“We have to be self-critical about this and other mistakes (…) because this narrative that everything is going wrong is combined with the narrative that Morena has already gone astray, which I don’t agree with. There are visible errors and contradictions, and I think we have to be very self-critical, including about the decisions that were made in recent years,” Hernández emphasized to Alejandro Páez and Álvaro Delgado on the program that airs every Sunday on Canal Once.

The federal secretary stressed that the intention of the right-wing opposition is to delegitimize the government headed by President Claudia Sheinbaum, as, she said, they tried to do with the government of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, and therefore urged the movement of which she is a part to make a public self-criticism.

“We need to be very self-critical, very critical, and discuss it openly, because ultimately the intention of the right wing, which they didn’t achieve during López Obrador’s six-year term and which I’m sure they won’t achieve in this one either, has been to win over common sense, to win the narrative, and we have managed to maintain a majority thanks to the revolution of consciousness that has been one of the characteristics of the movement, but that’s why I think we have to continue discussing it and talk about it openly,” she said.

A recently unearthed video shows Carlos Manzo meeting with PRI Deputy Ruben Moreira, ultra right wing Youtube streamer Carlos Alazraki, Vicente Fox’s former spokesman Ruben Aguilar & other right wing figures in late June.

Speaking specifically about the murder of Carlos Manzo, she expressed that, without forgetting the indignation that may exist against the state government, headed by Morena, many were using the fact to seek a political-electoral benefit, and not to demand something from the government.

“It is striking that the response is political-electoral, which it could have intended, and mature over months, but the first response is political-electoral, not a social response, or a demand on the government,” she said.

Therefore, she insisted that Morena has a duty to engage in deep self-criticism, since the opposition is seeking any opportunity to delegitimize the federal government. She reiterated that self-analysis is essential to prevent those with vested interests from destabilizing the movement initiated by López Obrador.

“That is why I believe it is worthwhile to warn society, that is, to further strengthen our analysis and our criticism, because I do believe, and I say this with great responsibility, that there is an attempt to launch an attack against the Government, and also, since López Obrador came to the presidency, because we are a transformative government that has touched on certain interests,” she said.

“Yes, I do believe there are several national and international interests that could be stirring up this and any other conflict or situation that may arise, as events occur in every six-year term, to amplify it in order to gain a majority and, let’s say, delegitimize a government,” Hernández concluded.
