In an unprecedented and historic event, the Colombian government organized a public ceremony attended by more than 5,000 people, including victims and relatives of those killed in the extermination of the Patriotic Union political force. The event was organized following the peace agreements signed in 1984 between the government of Belisario Betancourt and the FARC guerrilla group in an effort to try to stop political and social violence in Colombia.
The victims of violence insisted for many years that the national justice system recognize them as victims of state terrorism, but it did not happen until several lawyers and human rights activists decided to take the case to the Inter-American Court of Human Rights, which issued a ruling mandating the Colombian state to apologize to the victims of the murder of more than 6,000 people for which the state is responsible, including two presidential candidates, Jaime Pardo Leal and Bernardo Jaramillo.
This event featured various cultural performances in support of peace, justice, and reparation, with singing, arts, and culture. The message was very clear: never again genocide in Colombia, nor in the world. WBW joined the thousands of voices around the world that continue to call for peace and social justice. Gabriel Aguirre, organizer for Latin America and the Caribbean, was a special guest at the event.
During the event, victims and relatives of those murdered between 1984 and 2004 spoke, recounting horrific stories of persecution, murder, torture, and multiple human rights violations. This is undoubtedly an example of how war becomes one of humanity’s most terrible acts against itself.
The Colombian president, on behalf of the state, apologized to the victims and mentioned that he had invited the country’s entire military leadership to face the victims as an act of forgiveness and reparation, as well as demanding that militarism never again be the response to controversy and different ways of thinking in the country.
Acto Para Pedir Perdón A Las Víctimas De La Violencia En Colombia.

En un acto histórico y sin precedentes, el Estado colombiano, organizó un acto público, que contó con la asistencia de más de 5.000 personas entre víctimas y familiares del exterminio de la fuerza política Unión Patriótica, espacio construido después de los acuerdos de paz suscritos en 1984 entre el gobierno de Belisario Betancourt y la guerrilla de las FARC, en un esfuerzo por intentar detener la violencia política y social en Colombia.
Las víctimas de la violencia durante muchos años insistieron en la justicia nacional para que fueran reconocidos cómo víctimas del terrorismo de Estado, y no fue hasta que varios juristas y activistas de Derechos Humanos decidieron acudir a la Corte Interamericana de Derechos Humanos, quien mediante una sentencia mandataba al estado colombiano a pedir perdón a las víctimas que asesinó a más de 6.000 personas y de las cuáles el Estado es responsable, entre ellos dos candidatos presidenciales Jaime Pardo Leal y Bernardo Jaramillo.
Este acto contó don diferentes muestras culturales en favor de la Paz, la justicia y la reparación, con el canto, las artes y la cultura, el mensaje fue muy claro, nunca más un genocidio en Colombia, ni en el mundo.
Durante la actividad, hablaron las víctimas y familiares de las personas asesinadas desde 1984 y hasta el 2004, contando las más horrendas historias de persecución, asesinato, torturas y violaciones múltiples a los derechos humanos. Esto sin dudas es una muestra de cómo la guerra se convierte en una de las más terribles acciones de la humanidad contra la misma humanidad.
El presidente colombiano a nombre del Estado, pidió perdón a las víctimas, además de mencionar que había invitado a toda la cúpula militar del país, para que dieran la cara ante las víctimas cómo un acto de perdón y reparación, además de exigir que nunca más sea el militarismo la respuesta a las controversias y al pensamiento diferente en un país.
