The abundances and fluxes of metabolite molecules were measured at cellular resolution in the mouse liver and small intestine. The levels of most metabolites showed considerable gradients in both organs. Furthermore, intake of the sugar fructose triggered depletion of ATP molecules at foci in the liver.
