The PT (Workers Party) will form an alliance with Morena and the Green Party for the governorship of Zacatecas, but it has no vacancies for candidates barred by nepotism, such as Saúl Monreal , assured Senator Geovanna Bañuelos de la Torre, who is positioning herself as a candidate in the state for 2027.

“Zacatecas will be a priority in the negotiations on the 27th, but we are not alone. We are not going it alone; we are within the framework of our coalition, a coalition that the PT has maintained since 2000, when Andrés Manuel (López Obrador) aspired to be head of government of the city,” she said in an interview.

Last week, the PT announced that the Senator would be their candidate for governor, acknowledging that the decision is part of the party asserting its right to put forward candidates from the alliance.

“Absolutely. We in the PT are prepared to present proposals in all 17 states and 300 districts. What we have declared and discussed with the president of Morena is that we will support each other in the elections for the Chamber of Deputies and the 17 governorships,” said the party’s election committee member.

Where there is no certainty of alliance would be in the election of local congresses. “Perhaps what could still be up in the air would be the local congress elections that we are going to have throughout the country, except in Coahuila, and the mayoral elections.”

PT Senator Criticizes David Monreal

Although she stated that her aspiration has not generated disagreements with the Morena senator Saúl Monreal, who is planning to run for governor, she did criticize his brother.

“What is happening in Zacatecas? There is a power vacuum, that is the truth,” she said about the state currently governed by David Monreal.

“There are many men and women who aspire to positions within Morena. It’s an internal process, and I would dare to say—respectfully—that it has become almost a family matter. We have no need to confront our allies.”

Since Saúl Monreal is barred from running as a Morena candidate because the party has banned nepotism, the interviewee ruled out the possibility that the PT could nominate him to circumvent that ban.

“The Workers Party, in the case of Zacatecas and all the states holding gubernatorial elections, has no vacancies. We need to respect our colleagues who have been members for a long time,” she added.
