As Don Draper once said, “If you don’t like what is being said, change the conversation.” President Trump doesn’t like what’s being said right now, between all the chatter about the Epstein files and his failure to address Americans’ affordability concerns. So on Thursday morning he changed the conversation with a Truth Social posting spree calling for Democratic lawmakers to be put to death, as in his mind it’s preferable to have everyone focused on his chilling threats of violence against his political opponents.

Earlier this week, two Democratic senators and four House members put out a video reminding members of the military and intelligence services that they “swore an oath to protect and defend the Constitution,” not the president, and the law says they can “refuse illegal orders.”

Trump began his Truth Social tirade by posting a Washington Examiner article about the video and saying that the Democrats in the video are “traitors to our Country” who should be “ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL”:

The president then reposted 16 messages, most of which just reiterated his call to arrest the alleged “traitors.” Here’s a sample:

Trump then shared a post calling for the Democrats to be executed:

It seems the president also inadvertently reposted a “truth” that disagreed with him, noting that the Democrats were only talking about disobeying “unlawful” orders:

But Trump quickly cleared up any confusion about whether he is actually calling for violence against his political opponents. He reposted the Examiner article, suggesting “LOCK THEM UP???” Then he noted in another post that “SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR” is “punishable by DEATH!”

The six Democrats — Senators Elissa Slotkin and Mark Kelly, and Representatives Maggie Goodlander, Jason Crow, Chris Deluzio, and Chrissy Houlahan — have all served in the military or intelligence services. Here’s their video:

They repeatedly state that they are calling for servicemembers to obey the law, even if the administration doesn’t. But of course, Trump sees his word, not the Constitution, as the highest law of the land. As he wrote on Truth Social earlier this year, “He who saves his Country does not violate any Law.”
