Editor’s Note: President Xiomara Castro of Honduras arrives in Mexico as Honduras experiences what the Progressive International has called “a coordinated effort to distort, delegitimize, and ultimately interfere in the country’s sovereign democratic process,” and unilateral political threats from US imperialism.

Mexico City. President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo will receive her Honduran counterpart, Xiomara Castro Sarmiento, in a state ceremony tomorrow.

“She’s coming tomorrow, we’ll receive her. It’s a formal visit, nation to nation, state to state. We’ll celebrate as we do (with other heads of state), we’ll receive her, and both national anthems will be played,” the President announced at her Monday morning press conference at the National Palace.

Sheinbaum Pardo indicated that after the official reception protocol for the Honduran president, they will have a private meeting —although she was not asked about the topics they will discuss—.

She stated that the meeting would reaffirm the collaboration between the two countries, “further strengthening the already good relationship we have with Honduras.”

There will be no joint press conference, he said, but the scope of the meeting will be announced in a statement.

Castro Sarmiento arrived in Mexico yesterday at approximately 5:11 p.m. at Military Air Base Number 19 of the Mexico City International Airport.

She and her delegation were received by Foreign Minister Juan Ramón de la Fuente, representing the Mexican government. Also present was Undersecretary for Latin America and the Caribbean, Raquel Serur.

It should be noted that the Honduran head of government’s last visit to the Mexican capital was on September 29 of last year, when she participated in Sheinbaum’s inauguration.
