WBW’s Latin America organizer Gabriel Aguirre in a news video from the CELAC-EU summit in November 2025
By Marc Eliot Stein, World BEYOND War, November 26, 2025
Alarmed by USA’s sadistic attacks on boats in the Caribbean Sea and the likelihood of another disastrous attempt at regime change in Venezuela by the Trump/Rubio team that previously sponsored the fiasco of Juan Guaidó, we spoke to World BEYOND War’s Latin America organizer Gabriel Aguirre on episode 78 of the World BEYOND War podcast.
The world is watching Latin America with great concern as these attacks continue, and we can see a vivid spirit of resistance in a video of the recent CELAC-EU summit in Santa Marta, Colombia, which we speak about in this podcast. This summit declared Latin America to be a “zone of peace” – because, as Gabriel explains, the provocations to doom this continent into the misery of global war are all coming from outside Latin America, which has no need for war. Even as tensions increase across South America, Central America and the Caribbean, activists, competent politicians and sane humanitarians are holding strong for unity and peace, and have even managed some encouraging electoral decisions like Ecuador’s brilliant and successful popular vote to reject the presence of US military bases on their land. World BEYOND War worked to help this result, and in today’s interview Gabriel Aguirre takes a moment to thank our chapters in Latin America – La Paz Bolivia, Bioregión Aconcagua, Bogotá, Venezuela, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Cuidad de Mexico, Jamaica, Ecuador and Honduras- for all their continuing great work.
This interview gave me a chance to ask Gabriel for his reaction to some of the ridiculous lies about Latin America that are constantly repeated in USA media, particularly about the problems created by drug cartels and violent gangs which often originate in USA and are deeply tied to the global north’s own severe internal problems. I learned a few things I didn’t know about, including NATO’s recent attempts to infiltrate Colombia. I also heard the regional name Abya Yala for the first time.
The world is watching Abya Yala with tremendous concern as external attacks continue. Thanks to Gabriel Aguirre for talking to us today. Musical excerpt: “En favor de la paz” by Dame Pa Matala.
