Donald Trump kicked off his so-called affordability tour on Tuesday night with a rally at the Mount Airy Casino Resort in the Pocono Mountains. White House aides described this as the start of a “relentless campaign on the economy for the next 11 months,” according to Politico. But rather than assuring Americans struggling with the high cost of living that he feels their pain and has a plan to help, the president just reiterated that he feels their affordability concerns are a “hoax.” Then he launched into an especially racist version of “the weave,” lobbing attacks at “shithole” countries, spewing lies about Ilhan Omar, and making some bold claims about how “Black people love Trump.” And he topped it all off with sexist musings, semi-coherent rambling, and wacky noises.

Here are some of the dumbest and most offensive moments.

He isn’t allowed to call affordability a ‘hoax’ (but did it anyway)

Trump kicked off his affordability message by claiming once again that Americans’ economic struggles are just a conspiracy theory made up by Democrats and the media.

“They said, ‘Oh, he doesn’t realize prices are higher.’ Prices are coming down very substantially,” Trump said. “But they have a new word. You know, they always have a hoax. The new word is affordability.”

Later, Trump suggested that his team told him to stop using the word “hoax,” but he made it clear that he thinks high prices are a thing of the past.

“I can’t say affordability is a hoax because I agree the prices were too high. So I can’t go to call it a hoax because they’ll misconstrue that,” Trump said. “But they use the word ‘affordability.’ And that’s the only word they say. Affordability. And that’s their only word. They say, ‘Affordability.’ And everyone says, ‘Oh, that must mean Trump has high prices.’ No. Our prices are coming down tremendously from the highest prices in the history of our country.”

One actual economic proposal: pencil austerity

The affordability message wasn’t all denial. He suggested Americans could solve their financial woes by cutting back to “one or two pencils” and “two or three dolls” per kid.

‘The weave’: now with fun sound effects

He issued a warning before fully veering off topic: “Again it’s a thing called tariffs. I told you, I was about to say. You know, because I love ‘the weave.’ You know what the weave is? You go here, ping, bing, bing. You always have to get back to the right location.”

If you didn’t already know that Trump has rebranded his rambling as “the weave,” I’m not sure if that explanation would help.

Admits he did say ‘shithole countries’

Seven years ago, Trump denied reports that he called Haiti and African nations “shithole countries” during a closed-door meeting. But on Tuesday night, he admitted that he totally did.

When an audience member shouted “Shithole!” Trump quipped, “I didn’t say that, you did.” But then he acknowledged making the comment in a 2018 Oval Office meeting, saying, “Remember I said that to the senators that came in?”

Then he hurled some new racist attacks, asking why we can’t take immigrants from nice (majority white) countries like Norway, Sweden, Denmark, rather than nations like Somalia, which he called “filthy, dirty, disgusting, ridden with crime.”

Ilhan Omar needs to ‘get the hell out’ of the U.S.

Trump spewed some vitriol at U.S. representative Ilhan Omar specifically, saying she “and the people from Somalia, they hate our country.”

He continued his racist tirade, saying, “I love this Ilhan Omar, whatever the hell her name is. With her little turban. I love her. She comes in, does nothing but bitch. She’s always complaining. She comes from her country where, I mean, it’s considered about the worst country in the world.”

Trump went on to claim, falsely, that Omar is in the country illegally and married her brother to gain entry to the U.S. (She fled the Somali civil war as a child, was granted asylum, and legally became a U.S. citizen at 17.)

Trump had a lot of racist things to say about foreign nations. But don’t worry, he saved some offensive remarks for Black Americans, too!

In his defense, he was focused on making an idiotic joke about Native Americans being overly sensitive about the word “chief.”
