going to vent. Robotaxi is such a shitty term, like out of a bag 50s pulp fiction.

come on, find a better name. i cringe ever time I hear it.

I would argue that the model 3 and Y are pretty good except for one pretty big problem (rear seat internal door handles). I’m not talking about autopilot or FSD, just as an EV.

Huh, interesting. Well, I’m not as familiar with the Y but the 3 and the Y share a lot of parts and are very similar and the 3 has pretty consistently been highly rated by Car and Driver, Consumer Reports, etc. I got a used 2021 model 3 almost 2 years ago (I’m prepared for the downvotes I’ll get for that) and it’s been really good. I didn’t like Elon when I got it (I don’t like any other CEOs either) but that was before DOGE and all that other bullshit but I’m talking about the physical car itself being good. I haven’t had a single issue with mine and none of the people I know with one have had any real issue with it. I’ve heard online about some issues that others have had, maybe their quality control isn’t great. And apparently interactions with people who work at Tesla frequently aren’t great. Obviously this isn’t everyone’s experience but mine just works, so far. I haven’t taken it for service, the only maintenance so far is for tires and wiper fluid/blades. I almost never use autopilot and FSD is garbage and probably always will be until they start using lidar. Yes, the rear interior door handles are a huge oversight, I’m planning to add a pull-cord so my rear passengers have an accessible mechanical release for the doors.

Anyways, I like the 3. The Y and the S seem nice. The X would be much better if it didn’t have those ridiculous doors and obviously the cybertruck is a dumpster fire. I won’t be giving Tesla any more money while Elon is in charge. Looking forward to Aptera and Telo.

People think their Tesla is great partly because they never get a mechanic to go over it. They think EV = no maintenance. Ignorance is bliss.

Maybe, but I think that’s just how EVs are, generally. No timing belts, head gaskets, spark plugs, transmission, etc. Almost all the stuff I had to get regularly maintained on my previous cars don’t exist on EVs. I’ll probably get my brakes checked around 200k miles or if I start to hear them. Maybe my A/C will break down. We’ll see.

They have all the same suspension parts, and there is significantly more wear on them due to the increased weight. They also go through brakes more frequently due to corrosion due to lack of use.
