    Before we quit doing Christmas altogether, after the kids left home, we had one rule: if you didn’t invite us for some get-together time during the rest of the year, we didn’t invite you for Christmas Eve.

    That very, VERY quickly shortlisted a lot of people we didn’t really enjoy the company of on the 24th.

    And then we quit doing Christmas because we realized we could meet with people we liked any time of the year, and offer them gifts for a lot cheaper too if we wanted to. So we informed the people we liked about our not bothering with this idiotic tradition anymore, and it’s worked out fine for us ever since.
