Tens of millions of Americans are set to see their health insurance costs soar when subsidies under the Affordable Care Act expire at the end of this year. Health insurance premiums are expected to more than double or even triple for some 20 million people, pricing many out of healthcare coverage entirely. “We’ve done nothing as a country to control healthcare costs,” says Elisabeth Benjamin, vice president of health initiatives at the Community Service Society of New York and member of New York Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani’s transition team. Not an American, so may be wrong, but isn’t this the subsidies for households earning a couple of times higher than the poverty line. What household income level will this affect. Is this a tax break falling away or a subsidy?
In a lot of states you can make too little to have assistance. For instance, in mine. If I don’t make enough per year, I get no help, and just don’t have insurance.
Most ACA plans are for people who dont get insurance through work, which is part time people or peoole who work at companies below a certain size (under 30 employees i think). So most people with ACA plans are making below $50,000 a year
