Elias Lyman, who works for peace as an intern for World BEYOND War’s Madison, Wisconsin, chapter in the United States will receive a 2026 Student Activist Award from the Wisconsin Institute for Peace and Conflict Studies.
The award is presented annually to “Wisconsin college or university students who have made an outstanding contribution to activism related to peace and justice issues.” Lyman was nominated by Professors Matthew Sargent and Joel Ryan at Madison College. In his nomination letter, Professor Sargent commended Lyman’s work to build community and conversation around peace and nonviolence, including everything from founding a student chapter of World BEYOND War, to hosting a film series, to sponsoring panel discussions with veterans, and to monthly Anti-War Cafes that bring in students from other colleges and high schools. He also noted Lyman’s organization of the 2025 Solidarity for Peace Day at Madison College.
The award will be presented at the institute’s spring conference at Edgewood University on Friday, April 10, 2026.
