Once again the empire has emerged as the number one profiteer of wars ravaging over the globe. However, this time, the Trump administration is not planning to do so only by looting the wealth belonging to the affected population, but also through explicit bargaining with allies and rivals alike.

On Friday, January 16, the White House released a statement revealing a US-led three-layer structure, which is supposed to take control of post-war Gaza.

The complex governing system consists of the newly formed National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG), which will be steered by what the US government called as the “Executive Board”, that in turn emanates from Trump’s “Board of Peace”.

The list of members appointed in the Executive Board is not less shocking for the Palestinian grassroots than those assigned to the NCAG. The formation of the committee has already provoked controversy due to involving politicians whose background may put Palestinian unity at risk and open the door for direct coordination with Israel.

Meanwhile, many of the members of the Executive Board are known for their devotion for the Zionist colonial project and their unwavering support for Israel, particularly during its two-year genocidal aggression on Gaza. An Israeli tycoon is also a member of the executive body.

The Executive Board that will be chaired by United Nations envoy Nickolay Mladenov, who will also act as the “High Representative for Gaza”, includes:

Gaza’s genocide perpetrator will become a founding member in the board

More surprising details have continued to unfold during the days following the White House’s statement. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on Wednesday, January 21, that he accepted Trump’s invitation to join the Board of Peace and will become one of its founding members, according to a statement released by his office.

The invitation has further exposed the audacity of US foreign policy, by selecting the perpetrator of one of the most horrific genocides in modern history to rule his own victims.

Over 60 countries to join the board?

According to media reports, the US President sent invitations to the leaders of more than 60 nations over the globe to become part of his “Board of Peace”. Yet, permanent membership is not free of charge: Trump has set its price at USD 1 billion. An extremely cheap price when compared to at least 71,548 lives taken in Gaza during the Israeli genocide since October 7, 2023.

Ironically, the list of invitees includes closes US allies hand in hand with its arch-rivals, including:

AlbaniaArgentinaAustraliaAustriaBahrainBelarusBrazilCanadaChinaCyprusEgyptEuropean CommissionFinlandFranceGermanyGreeceHungaryIndiaIndonesiaIrelandIsraelItalyJapanJordanKazakhstanMoroccoNetherlandsNew ZealandNorwayOmanPakistanParaguayPolandPortugalQatarRomaniaRussiaSaudi ArabiaSingaporeSloveniaSouth KoreaSpainSwedenSwitzerlandThailandTürkiyeUnited Arab EmiratesUnited KingdomUkraineUzbekistanVietnam

Analysts suggest that Trump may have decided to shift his strategy to maintain the US-dominated unipolar world order by having his adversaries engaged in ruling Gaza instead of continuously threatening to wage wars and impose sanctions against them.

Such a transformation may be attributed to his recognition that launching military actions and taking arbitrary measures against great powers, like China and Russia, would be exorbitant.

A “Board of Peace” or a composite imperial entity?

For many, the entire structure of Trump’s multi-tier board represents a composite imperial entity, which is reminiscent of the British Mandate for Palestine (1922 to 1948): a colonist mandate that ended up with the creation of Israel as a “national home” for the Jewish people, displacing hundreds of thousands of Palestinians from historic Palestine, and practicing systematic ethnic cleansing against the rest of the indigenous population for around eight decades.
