The Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) intensified its violations of the ceasefire deal, which Israel reached with Hezbollah in November 2024, with multiple assaults that targeted different areas in southern Lebanon on Monday, February 9.
At least three people, including a three-year old child, were killed when an Israeli drone struck a car in the town of Yanouh, in the Tyre District.
The slain child was identified as Ali Jaber, the son of Hassan Jaber, who was a member of Lebanon’s Internal Security Forces and was also murdered in the attack.
In addition, the IOF shot dead another civilian in the town of Aita al-Shaab in the Bint Jbeil District, according to the Lebanese Health Ministry.
In yet another grave violation of Lebanon’s sovereignty, the IOF soldiers kidnapped Atwi Atwi, a senior official in the Muslim Brotherhood-linked Al-Jamaa al-Islamiya group, after they raided the town of Habbarieh in the southern governorate of Nabatieh. Local media outlets reported that the kidnapped Lebanese leader was also a former mayor of Habbarieh.

The IOF said in a statement following Atwi’s arrest, that he “was transferred for further interrogation within Israeli territory”. It also claimed that “weapons were located in the building”, where he was captured.
The renewed offensives came one month after the Lebanese army had announced the completion of phase one of the US-dictated plan to confine weapons to the state. The move was interpreted as yet another attempt by the Lebanese state to flatter the Trump administration, despite the non-stop Israeli violations of the truce agreement.
The Lebanese state condemns the abduction of Atwi and the ongoing Israeli attacks on Lebanon
Lebanese Minister of Interior and Municipalities Ahmad Al-Hajjar strongly condemned the ongoing Israeli attacks on his country and the abduction of Atwi on Monday.
Al-Hajjar described the renewed onslaughts as a “categorically unacceptable” escalation, which “constitutes a blatant violation of sovereignty and security.”
He further reiterated his call for “the release of all Lebanese detainees held by Israel.”
