Mark Johnston from Scottsdale, Arizona Prominences are masses of hot plasma that leap off the limb of the Sun, drawn upward along tangled magnetic field lines. The imager used a 6-inch scope and Hα etalon to capture this Feb. 1 example, which appears to resemble a T-rex stomping across our star’s surface.
