Hi, all, and happy Monday.
I’m about to hop on a call, so this will have to be a short introduction.
I hope you all had a terrific weekend and got some rest. I did! I went to see a performance of All My Sons, an Arthur Miller play, at the Antaeus Theater in Glendale yesterday—I actually ran into a few of you there! It’s an excellent play that I’ve seen before; it remains as relevant now as it was when it came out in 1947. If you happen to be in the Glendale, CA area I highly recommend it!
Arts and culture are so important to surviving fascism, my friends. I reach for them as if they’re medicine these days. I hope you do, too. I’ve said before, and I’ll say again, that art and authoritarianism are mutually exclusive. When I’m immersed in the former I get a nice reprieve—if only mentally—from the latter. Whether it’s theater, paintings, choral performances, a good book, or what have you—art is beyond salutary when living under fascism. Embrace it!
There’s a lot happening this week—possible strikes in Iran, a vote on the Boundary Waters mining deal in Minnesota, the continued DHS shutdown, ongoing talk about the SAVE America Act being passed via “talking filibuster,” a possible Farm Bill vote, and more. We will take things as we can and not panic about anything that isn’t actually before us. For today we’ve got plenty of calls to make, so let’s do that. Our voices matter, and history is being written in part by what actions we take.

First, I want the Senator to vote NO on H.J. Res 140 this week. I want to see the Boundary Waters protected, not wrecked by a foreign mining company!
Second, we have learned of yet another American citizen being murdered by ICE. It’s outrageous! ICE is a murderous agency that is completely out of control. They need to be abolished and replaced, but until then I expect Congress to codify all of the demands on Democrats’ list, and that’s at the bare minimum. I support Democrats in voting down any new DHS funding until that happens.
Third, we do NOT want war with Iran. Trump is an unfit maniac who’s trying to distract us from his Epstein ties and failures on the economy. Stop him. Pass an Iran war powers resolution immediately.
[IF GOP ADD:] Finally, I oppose the SAVE America Act with every fibre of my being. It will cause absolute chaos for ALL voters. The Senator needs to vote no or Republicans will for sure lose their majority in November. We will make sure of it.

First, I want the Congressmember to vote no on the Farm Bill until Congress reverses the cuts to the SNAP Program from HR1. These attacks on nutritional assistance need to stop, and the Farm bill does nothing to fix them. If we have one and a half trillion for our military we can give back the 187B in cuts Republicans made to SNAP. We should.

Eight months after President Trump and Secretary of Defense Hegseth insisted Iran’s nuclear program was “obliterated,” they are apparently again concerned enough about it that they are considering another set of military strikes. Or they may be trying to protect the protests, even though Tehran has already crushed them with thousands of murders. Or maybe they’re trying for more regime change in the Middle East. It’s not at all clear what the White House is after, but they are definitely threatening to bomb Iran.This is ridiculous and dangerous, and it’s not how democracies are supposed to go into battle. Please support Senator Tim Kaine and Rep. Ro Khanna’s proposed war powers resolutions, S.J.Res.104 and H.J.Con.Res.38, or similar efforts to block this White House from once again taking military action without the public’s permission.The administration has been warning they may attack for weeks. They have had plenty of time to send more of our young men and women in uniform into the area and consult with our regional allies. There is not an imminent risk towards us that demands a response, and they have had the opportunity to seek the nation’s approval if they cared. Congress, who have the sole power to declare war, have not even been briefed about what our strategy or whatever our goals are.In between saber-rattling at some of our closest allies, President Trump has launched missiles on four continents in recent weeks. He seems near openly gleeful about the prospect of bombing someone whenever it suits his whims. It’s Congress’ responsibility to stop him before someone bombs us back.
OK, you did it again! You’re helping to save democracy! You’re amazing.
