It does seem like common sense to implement a tape delay if you know that you’ll have a member of the audience who may randomly scream NSFW things uncontrollably.
It wouldn’t have protected Delroy Lindo and Michael B Jordan from what must have been an awful experience all around, but it would have kept it from being broadcast.
Read the article. It was delayed two hours. They edited out political statements and jokes but not the n-word. Someone chose to air it and knew just what they were doing.
edit: Their claim is that the slur was not heard by the employees doing the delay edits.
Not heard by the employees, but perfectly clearly by my elderly father who refuses to get a hearing aid.
Suuuuuure.
The BAFTAs are delayed by a couple of hours.
