China was seeking to recruit them and other NATO military personnel in order to harness Western military expertise and bolster its own capabilities.
“The insight the PLA [People’s Liberation Army] gains from Western military talent threatens the safety of the targeted recruits, their fellow service members, and US and allied security,” the notice stated.
“Those providing unauthorized training or expertise services to a foreign military can face civil and criminal penalties.”
The fact that this has seemingly happened multiple times is kinda crazy. You’d think China would just set them up for life and they wouldn’t want to come “home.” I realize China doesn’t care once they’ve got the training, but surely there’s somewhere in China similar enough to Indiana this guy could call home. The more messages move through US ranks that you’ll get a free house, health care, cushy retirement, decent travel budget and delicious food for the rest of your life if you move to China instead of messages that you might get arrested at 65 and tried as a traitor if you come home the better it’ll be for China.
valid point. as us forces see themselves as the victim time and time again over gov’t shutdowns and shitty GOP attacks on the VA, perhaps just the relative stability and consistency of china will be a compelling reason to betray their homes.
it’s hard to retain much nationalistic pride when they’re gutting healthcare everywhere.
