Metastasis occurs when cancer cells spread to other organs and escape elimination by the immune system. Analysis reveals that these cells resist killing by immune cells by harnessing stress-hormone signalling through the glucocorticoid receptor, suggesting a potential therapeutic target for preventing metastasis.
