Microplastics (MPs), defined as plastic fragments with sizes ranging from millimeters (<5 mm) to nanometers, have become a growing environmental and public health concern. First identified in the 1970s, these particles are now omnipresent in water, soil, air, and everyday products, such as detergents and cosmetics.
