Hi, all, and happy Friday.

Well, we made it through another week. And what a week it’s been. I’m proud of us for just surviving it—and yet we’ve done so much more. We’ve shown up to demand that our lawmakers stop this war, block terrible appointees, oppose the SAVE Act, pass a good housing bill, and keep pushing on the Epstein case. It matters. So before anything else I want to thank you for being here.

I also want to make a slight correction to what I said yesterday about my subscriptions. There has, indeed, been a steep drop off in paid subscriptions, but, upon double checking, my subscriptions overall are actually up. There are over 157K of you now! I think only the paid subscriptions show up on my dashboard graph, and that line has indeed sloped downwards rather steeply over the last two weeks. But I know lots of folks are struggling, so it sort of makes sense. There’s a reason this newsletter doesn’t do paywalls. If you can’t afford to pay—don’t! I love having you here, and I trust that those of you who can afford to pay (and wish to) will.

Now on to more important things. There has been an explosion of both antisemitism and anti-Muslim hate over the last two weeks. We had an attack on a synagogue in Michigan yesterday; sadly it’s one of many —they’re definitely escalating.

We also had an unbelievably vile anti-Islam post from Senator Tommy Tuberville yesterday. And he’s not alone.

Per Politico:

Tuberville’s post Thursday is the latest in a string of anti-Islam attacks made by sitting members of Congress. Earlier this week, Rep. Andy Ogles (R-Tenn.) faced backlash for saying “Muslims don’t belong in America.” Last month, Rep. Randy Fine (R-Fla.) faced calls for censure from Democrats after saying dogs are preferable to Muslims.

Yet no one in Republican leadership has condemned this. (We will call about that today.)

All, there is no solution to the problems we face that involves hate. Not hate of Jewish people. Not hate of Muslims. Not hate of women, nor trans people, nor Latinos, nor Black people, nor immigrants, nor, well, anyone. Hate is not a building block. It is a wrecking ball. It literally destroys everything it touches.

If we do, indeed, want to build a better future, then, it is our duty to push back against hate in all of its forms. Antisemitism is unacceptable. Islamophobia is unacceptable. If you have been on the receiving end of either—and I know many of you likely have—I am so deeply sorry. If you feel fearful in this moment because of such hate I am equally sorry. We must make this world one in which love, not hate, is the guiding force—the governing principle by which we live.

We must, that is, if we want to get through this.

And so many of us do. That is, after all, why we’re here! So love on your friends and family a little harder than usual today, please. Especially if they are of the Muslim or Jewish faith. We need each other. We can lift each other up. We can make each others’ lives better and, in so doing, improve our own lives immeasurably.

That is a vision for the future we must cling to and espouse. It is the only one that provides the hope we need to persist in this challenging moment, and the only one that grows the joy we need to not just survive but thrive, not just now, but always.

So, with all my love, let’s get to work.

Call Your Senators (find yours here) 📲

Hi, I’m a constituent calling from [zip]. My name is ______.

First, I am wholly opposed to this war in Iran. We are spending a billion dollars a day. Gas prices are skyrocketing. American servicemembers and thousands of civilians in the Middle East are being killed. It’s an environmental catastrophe. And there was no imminent threat to justify it. Congress needs to intervene now. Trump has no idea what he’s doing. Stop this war now.

Second, I oppose the SAVE America Act, Republicans’ voter suppression bill. I expect the Senator to vote no.

[If GOP add:] Finally, the Senate needs to pass Democrats’ bill to fund TSA right now. TSA workers are sleeping in their cars and relying on food banks to eat. Republicans know this. They know lines at airports are out of control. They could fix this today and they’re refusing to. It’s enraging. Fund TSA right away, but no funding for ICE or CBP. Thanks.

Second, I heard there is another whistleblower report about data breaches at the Social Security Administration. This one says that a DOGE member, likely John Solly, took all of our Social Security data on a thumb drive to his new job. This is horrifying. Reps Larson and Neal want Commissioner Frank Bisignano to come testify about it before Congress. I agree. If there have been data breaches at SSA we need to know about them. Please ask the Congressmember to make a statement in support of such hearings.

Let’s call Speaker Mike Johnson at ‭(202) 225-4000‬ and Senate Majority Leader John Thune at (202) 224-2321.

We can say something like:

I’m calling because I’m horrified at the anti-Muslim rhetoric coming from Republican members right now. Senator Tuberville’s post yesterday was vile, but it’s not the first one like it. Rep. Andy Ogles and Rep. Randy Fine have also said terrible, vicious things about Muslims recently. These hateful words will lead to violence against our Muslim friends and neighbors—it is cruel and irresponsible. And the fact that Republican leadership hasn’t yet condemned them is appalling. Please ask the Speaker/Leader to do so immediately. Thanks.

Indivisible is asking us to send a letter to our Senators calling on them to ensure that the appropriations bill for the Department of Homeland Security halts ICE and Border Patrol’s terror campaign and protects our communities.

Free and fair elections depend on two essential principles: protecting the right of eligible citizens to vote and safeguarding the integrity and privacy of election systems.Recent developments across the country have raised serious concerns among election officials from both parties. The U.S. Department of Justice has sought unprecedented access to state voter data, including requests for unredacted voter rolls containing sensitive personal information.State election officials from across the political spectrum have pushed back. Secretaries of state in multiple states — including several Republican-led states — have refused to provide unredacted voter data, citing state privacy protections and the lack of clear legal authority for such demands. Federal courts have also dismissed several lawsuits seeking to compel states to turn over this information.
