Hi, all, and happy Tuesday!
Also happy St. Patrick’s Day to those who celebrate.
Trump’s war continues to drag down all the things— his approval ratings, our economy, and the world’s mood. About the only thing going up right now are gas prices, and that’s exponentially.
It’s ghastly to watch our country commit such an unforced error, one that’s costing precious lives, untold amounts of money, and our already-damaged reputation. There’s no solace in seeing Trump fumble and snatch, alternating in his appeals for help between bellicosity and obsequiousness. He looks weak; he is weak, and yet he has the ability to harm millions, if not billions, of people. It’s mind-blowing and distressing. It was also, of course, all so, so avoidable.
All we can do, dear friends, is keep doing what we’ve been doing. Perhaps even a bit more. We must get every person we can to No Kings on March 28, explaining to them clearly that this is an anti-war protest above all. We must call our lawmakers and speak even more forcefully about our opposition to everything Trump is doing. We must use our wallets to show corporations that standing with him means losing us. We must use every form of creative protest at our disposal. We must start working now to win elections in November—yes, even if we’re anxious about attacks on them.
Remember, faith, hope, patriotism, even courage…these things are actions, not feelings. If we wait to feel them before acting we’ll never move. We need to act first, then feel the faith, hope, patriotism, and courage flow into us.
Seems funny, but I promise that’s how it works. Try it!
I know this is exhausting. I know we all also have mouths to feed, dogs to walk, parents to care for, work to complete, taxes to file—ugh, that’s a bitter pill to swallow this year, isn’t it?—and more. Yet let’s be sure to keep a tiny pocket of our day for simple acts of resistance.
It is these acts that will eventually turn the tide.
In fact, I believe they already are.
So stay strong, dear friends. Stay brave. You are the well from which I draw my inspiration every day, as well as my hope. When this is over it is to you I will point when asked how we won.
Won’t that be wonderful? It will. And we will get there.
So let’s get to work.
P.S. — It’s my birthday today, and I’m going to use that to make a shameful plug. If you want to give me a small “gift,” please donate to our Run For Something fundraiser! Even $5 makes a difference! Give here if you can. Thank you!
Call Your Senators (find yours here) 📲
Hi, I’m a constituent calling from [zip]. My name is ______.
First, I’m calling to say I oppose the SAVE America Act. [If GOP add:] This bill would hinder millions of eligible Americans from registering to vote by requiring citizens to present a birth certificate or passport in person to register. It will wreak havoc on voters and on our elections. Vote no.
Second, I’m calling to urge the Senator to oppose the Paramount-Warner Brothers merger, conduct oversight into the regulatory approval process, and enforce our antitrust laws. This merger is blatantly corrupt. It will give Trump and his billionaire allies an unlawful media monopoly, harm consumers, and endanger free speech. [H/T]
Finally, I’m deeply concerned about our Social Security data. What is the Senator doing to investigate the data theft and leaks whistleblowers have been warning us about? Please call DOGE members up to testify under oath. We can’t fix this mess if we don’t know how bad it is. Thanks.

Hi, I’m a constituent calling from [zip]. My name is _______.
First, I’m calling to urge the Congressmember to oppose the Paramount-Warner Brothers merger, conduct oversight into the regulatory approval process, and enforce our antitrust laws. This merger is blatantly corrupt. It will give Trump and his billionaire allies an unlawful media monopoly, harm consumers, and endanger free speech. [H/T]
Second, I oppose this war with every fiber of my being, and I’m furious about its cost. We need to get out as soon as possible. That money should be going to fund healthcare, not to bombing Iranian children.
Finally, I’m deeply concerned about our Social Security data. What is the Senator doing to investigate the data theft and leaks whistleblowers have been warning us about? Please call DOGE members up to testify under oath. We can’t fix this mess if we don’t know how bad it is. Thanks.

[Thanks to subscriber Riley W. for the idea!]
Let’s reach out to our state attorneys general and ask them to sue the DOGE employees who stole our Social Security data.
You can find your State Attorney General’s website here. Find the “Contact Us” form. Use it!
I wrote, simply:
I’m sure the Attorney General has heard the recent whistleblower report about another possibly massive data breach at the Social Security administration. This is far from the first such accusation–the Trump DOJ has already admitted to a few such breaches. I am shocked and outraged that DOGE employees have allegedly taken our most sensitive personal data and are using it for nefarious purposes, yet suffered no consequences. We need state Attorneys General to act. The federal government won’t police itself right now, and every day this matter is left unaddressed is another day that ALL of our data is at risk. Please sue to find out what happened to our personal data at the SSA under DOGE! If someone broke the law they must be charged! Thanks.

The United States is now weeks into a war with Iran—and the facts emerging make one thing clear: this conflict was avoidable, unplanned, and is now being carried forward without allies.Diplomatic negotiations between the United States and Iran were making meaningful progress just days before the war began. Key allies believed a deal was within reach to constrain Iran’s nuclear program under international oversight. Follow-up talks were already scheduled. Those talks were abandoned when military strikes began.Since then, the consequences of that decision have escalated rapidly. The Strait of Hormuz—through which roughly 20% of the world’s oil flows—is now effectively closed to most traffic, driving up global energy prices and increasing costs for American families.Yet there was no clear plan to prevent or respond to this outcome.

OK, you did it again! You’re helping to save democracy! You’re amazing.
Talk soon.
