Editor’s note: This is a developing story.

An unidentified man opened fire inside a McDonald’s restaurant in the central Ukrainian city of Cherkasy on Aug. 7, according to Ukrainian media and police statements.

Regional police spokesperson Zoia Vovk confirmed to Suspilne that the incident occurred at the fast-food location. Law enforcement, special forces, and emergency medics were deployed to the scene.

“The investigative team, special forces, and medics are at the specified address. Please do not approach the scene of the incident. Details to follow,” local police said in a statement.

According to sources cited by RBC-Ukraine, one person was carried out of the restaurant with injuries — reportedly the gunman himself. His condition has not yet been disclosed.

Authorities have not released further information on the motive or circumstances of the shooting. No other injuries were immediately reported.

Cherkasy, a regional capital located about 200 kilometers (around 124 miles)south of Kyiv, sits along the Dnipro River in central Ukraine.
