Give to each president each prime minister each admiral each general an acorn

Tell them to plant it in a field where they’ll never see it again

Tell them not to think about it

Rather, each morning before thoughts crowd in tell them to feel it

To feel its roots stretching into the earth

To feel it aching toward the sun

To feel it breathing into the wind

Tell them to feel it swinging with the laughter of their children’s children
