It’s been barely a blink since we last gathered for an announcestravaganza with Summer Game Fest, but here we are again! It’s time for Gamescom Opening Night Live 2025, Geoff Keighley’s second big livestream of the year showing off some of the biggest games of 2025 and beyond. As usual, we’ll expect a couple surprise announcements and looks at a lot of games we already know about, including Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 and Resident Evil Requiem.

While the possibility of a Hollow Knight Silksong surprise launch has been hanging over the show, we now know the developers will be hosting a “special announcement” on Thursday. So we’ve likely got two more days to wait for that release date.

When does Gamescom Opening Night Live air?

The 2025 Gamescom Opening Night Live presentation starts at 8 pm CEST on August 19. That’s 11 am Pacific / 7 pm BST.

What do we expect from Gamescom Opening Night Live this year?

In our Gamescom 2025 preview, we highlighted some of the games we’re particularly excited to see at this year’s expo:

Most or all of these games should be playable at Gamescom and appear in Opening Night Live. But we’re hoping for some surprises, too.

Team Cherry’s “Special Announcement” on Thursday means we’re not getting a Silksong release date today

Way to scoop Geoff Keighley! The devs at Team Cherry are doing a big announcement themselves on Thursday, which you’ll be able to watch on YouTube.

We’re just an hour away from the start of Opening Night Live

What’s your most out-there, never-gonna-happen-but-you’re-kinda-hoping-for-it-anyway prediction?

I don’t expect it, but I really would like to see what Square Enix is doing with that Final Fantasy 9 remake.

A few scraps of news have popped up ahead of Opening Night Live today that may or may not be related to to the show:

MP1st spotted a trademark for Black Myth: Zhongkui, which sounds likely to be the promised DLC for Black Myth: WukongWario64 picked up on store page details for COD: BLOPS 7 that say an open beta will begin on October 5 (or Oct. 2 if you pay up for early access)Bandai Namco announced Tales of Xillia Remastered, after accidentally leaking it last week
