This statement was released by the Partido Popular Socialista de México (Popular Socialist Party of Mexico) on September 4th, 2025. The PPSM was founded by trade unionist Vicente Lombardo Toledano in 1960, arising as a socialist, Marxist-Leninist party from its precursor the Partido Popular (Popular Party), which was founded in 1948.
For two centuries, the United States has proclaimed its invariable policy regarding Latin America, which consists of considering it its “backyard,” an area that it believes it can exploit at will and impose all its decisions, whether economic, political or social.Having entered, a little over a century ago, that power’s claim on Latin America intensified. And finally, upon Donald Trump’s return to the White House for a second four-year term, and having magnified his neo-fascist tendencies, the threats and abuses against all our peoples and, above all, those who dared to establish governments that are not submissive to Washington, reached an all-time high. The fact that a figure like Marco Rubio, a representative of the anti-Cuban Miami Mafia, a stubborn interventionist, fierce anti-communist, and a sworn enemy of all progressive governments, assumed the position of Secretary of State of the United States, sealed the alliance of two far-right American factions: the Miami Mafia and the neo-fascist MAGA Group. With this composition, Washington has intensified its genocidal policies against the brotherly Cuban people; it has increased its provocations and aggressions against the brotherly Venezuelan people, and in general against all progressive governments, although it modulates the tone and depth of its actions according to the circumstances. In the case of Mexico and its government, Yankee imperialism has used above all the threats of tarrifs, in the economic sphere; but also the massive persecution of Mexican migrants, regardless of whether they are documented or not, savagely violating their most basic rights and breaking the laws that govern within the United States. Furthermore, by arrogating to itself the power to intervene extraterritorially in any country in the world under the pretext of combating “terrorist organizations,” and having classified six criminal gangs as such operating in Mexico, President Trump himself, other officials or unofficial spokesmen for imperialism, frequently launch accusations and veiled or open threats about the imminent invasion of our country. Regarding President Claudia Sheinbaum herself and various public officials, versions are circulating that range from saying they are afraid of the gangs and that is why they do not pursue them, to talking about collusion with drug traffickers. With all this background, the subservient and stateless right1 speculated about Marco Rubio’s announced visit to Mexico, publicly stating that they had the President “cornered”; that they would force her to submit, or that, at the very least, Rubio would scold and humiliate her.Faced with all the real dangers that Yankee imperialism poses to Mexico, and its real threats, Claudia Sheinbaum has adopted a permanent course of action consisting of four pillars; first, publicly reiterate that her government will never bow to any power and that it will always and under all circumstances defend our independence and sovereignty; second, also reiterate that, given our territory and that of the northern power are geographically united by the third-longest border in the world, by the fact alone our two countries share several problems, and that the best thing to do is to agree as equals on what we do and how we collaborate to resolve them; along these lines, she proclaims, coordination yes – not subordination, under any circumstances; third, do not be provoked, even by the most strident statements of Trump or his official or unofficial spokespersons: never respond with strident language, but never accept subordination in action and fourth, always keep the people of Mexico informed of everything that is happening regarding our now more complex than ever relationship with the United States, which, along with her other policies, has earned her the firm and permanently reiterated support of 80% of the population. What did President Sheinbaum announce again and again would happen at the meeting with Marco Rubio? What happened. The Yankee Secretary of State was forced to publicly acknowledge that Mexico is a sovereign country, that its authorities and those of the United States collaborate in addressing common problems; that each one attends only to matters in its own territory, without interfering in the others’; that they, the Yankees, bear responsiblity for the illegal trafficking of weapons used by criminal gangs into our territory, and that the Mexican government acts with the utmost responsibility, complying with what it is required to do according to established international agreements.
In summary, Marco Rubio’s meeting with the Mexican government, 1. was a great victory for all our people and their government; 2. it proved the justice and success of the line of conduct established by our progressive governments against Yankee imperialism, to the point of making it impossible for the fearsome adversary to carry out harmful actions against our country.
For all the reasons stated, we unreservedly support President Claudia Sheinbaum in the defense of our independence and national sovereignty, complying with our Constitution and the mandate of the Mexican people. Paraphrasing General Zaragoza, we can say that today the national weapons of serenity and firmness have been covered in glory.
