Peace activists will hold a 36-hour peace camp at Shannon Airport Peace Roundabout (Sept 13 at 6 a.m. to Sept 14 at 6 p.m.) as a mark of respect to the 18,500 children murdered in Gaza by Israel since October 8, 2023. To this end we will read out the names of these boys and girls.
On Sunday 14 September from noon until 2.30pm the 140-foot-long Craftivism for Palestine Granny Square Blanket will be opened out and held by the public. This crocheted blanket comprises 2,300 squares, with each square representing 10 boys and girls murdered in Palestine.
We again call on the Irish government to respect Irish neutrality and to stop allowing the U.S. military war machine to use our civilian airport as a transit hub for weapons, parts and U.S. military personnel to active war zones.
WE MUST STOP SUPPORTING GENOCIDE
We know Shannon Airport has, in the past, supported the U.S. war on Iraq; a war based on the false claim that Iraq possessed weapons of mass destruction. Ireland has also supported the U.S. military use of ‘extraordinary rendition’ (state-sponsored abduction, or, kidnapping) via Shannon Airport. Shannon Airport is being used as a de facto U.S. military base. Ireland purports to be a neutral country – it is obviously not.
The People of Ireland have not given permission to any Irish Government to misuse our civilian Shannon Airport. Our taxes fund the Gardaí and the Irish Army who protect U.S. military planes. As citizens, we are being forced to collude with the U.S. military by our government and are currently complicit in genocide. This has to stop. If Spain can impose an arms embargo on Israel to stop Gaza genocide, Ireland certainly can.
We completely respect the day-to-day operation of Shannon CIVILIAN Airport and all its employees.
