Mexico City. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) expressed its condemnation of the violent incident in which Mexican citizen Silverio Villegas González lost his life. This incident occurred Friday morning in Chicago, as he was about to be detained by U.S. immigration agents, and demanded an investigation to clarify the events.

In its X account, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated: “In light of the regrettable events that occurred yesterday in a suburb of Chicago, in which Mr. Silverio Villegas González lost his life, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemns the violence and has requested, through the Consulate General of Mexico in that city, that a rigorous investigation be carried out by the corresponding authority to fully clarify the facts.”

Likewise, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that “consulate staff have been in contact with Mr. Villegas’s family to provide them with the legal advice and support they require,” while reiterating “their commitment to the protection of Mexicans abroad.”

Another victim of the American’s death squad.

As reported by this newspaper, Villegas died after being shot by a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent during an operation outside Chicago, Illinois, in a predominantly Latino neighborhood called Franklin Park.

The deceased was hit by a bullet while trying to resist arrest; during the operation, he dragged the pursuing officer with his car, seriously injuring the officer, according to US media reports.

The Mexican Consulate in Chicago confirmed the nationality of 38-year-old Villegas González in a statement, stating that he was a chef from the state of Michoacán.

According to another statement from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the migrant, described as having a history of “reckless driving,” refused to follow the agents’ orders and attempted to flee in his car, driving toward them. In doing so, he dragged an ICE officer “a significant distance.” The agent, who suffered multiple injuries, fired a shot, fearing for his life.

The migrant was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, while the officer suffered serious injuries, although his condition was reported as stable.
