Several working meetings were held in Mexico City between a special mission from the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA-TCP) and Mexican authorities. The meeting was held to denounce what they described as a flagrant violation of international treaties by the United States government. In particular, they pointed out the failure to comply with the Tlatelolco Protocol, which prohibits the transfer and use of war and nuclear weapons in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The regional bloc’s Secretary General, Rander Peña, accompanied by the ALBA-TCP delegation, stated: “This special mission brings the concern of seeing how Latin America and the Caribbean are being threatened, but it also brings concrete actions to protect peace in the region, to protect the proclamation and validity of Latin America as a zone of peace, declared as such by presidents and heads of government in 2014, during the meeting of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) in Havana, Cuba.”

During a break from meetings with Mexican authorities, Peña denounced U.S. military aggression and threats directed against Venezuela and other sovereign countries on the continent.

The leader expressed his concern over what he considers a violation of the Treaty of Tlatelolco, following the recent US military deployment in the Caribbean, which includes the deployment of nuclear submarines. He explained that this action contravenes the protocol established by the treaty, which prohibits nuclear powers from transferring such weapons to countries in the Latin American region.

At the same time, he emphasized that the special mission promoted by the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA) has been positively received by the Mexican government. This initiative is part of a series of working meetings mandated by the alliance’s member countries.

Rander Peña also reported that a meeting is being arranged with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum to present her with a letter of diplomatic importance. The corresponding meetings are currently taking place in Mexico City.
