During the counteroffensive in Donetsk Oblast, Ukrainian forces have seized Russian maps showing that Russian troops are providing their command with distorted information about the situation at the front.

Quote: “Yesterday, during a report on our operation [referring to the counteroffensive near Dobropillia – ed.], I saw the deployment of our military personnel and assets in electronic form and I saw the Russian maps. Their reports differ greatly from reality. Where we have regained positions, the Russians’ maps show the opposite,” Zelenskyy said.

Details: According to Zelenskyy, this indicates that mid-level reports in the Russian army differ significantly from the actual situation on the battlefield.

He also recalled that in the information space, the Russian side constantly spreads statements about the supposedly imminent capture of Donbas.

Quote: “I think that’s not bad. In the information field, there has been a constant provocation about their presence in Donbas, that supposedly in 30 days they will completely capture Pokrovsk and definitely seize the east by November. But this differs from reality,” the president added.

Details: Zelenskyy reported that in the areas of Dobropillia and Pokrovsk, about 330 km are under the control of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, of which 160 km have been liberated and more than 170 km cleared of Russian occupiers. He suggested the Russians are likely to redeploy personnel there to hold their positions.

Background: On September 20, Zelenskyy also said that once the number of Ukrainian drones equals that of the Russians, the Russians will face a fuel shortage.
