On September 21, the African chapters of World BEYOND War joined the community of peace activists around the world to call for Peace. The current events in Africa, like what is happening in the world, paint war as becoming something ordinary, with which people are prepared to live, as the infrastructures of war such as military bases and the ease of resorting to weapons to solve problems are no longer frightening to many. It is in the interest of denouncing war and its preparations that the African chapters have carried out actions to reaffirm their commitment to a world without war.

In Cameroon, chapter members participated in a march for peace, alongside other organizations. The aim of this mobilization was to call for peace, to highlight dialogue as a means of preventing violence. During the tense election period in Cameroon, chapter members also sensitized march participants on the dangers of hate speech.

The Gambia chapter organized a webinar to continue engaging youth, policymakers, and civil society in dialogue on banning autonomous weapons. The event highlighted the role of young people in shaping ethical responses to artificial intelligence (AI) militarization and promoting a culture of peace. Watch the recording here.

In Nigeria, the chapter hosted a youth-centered webinar to advance dialogue and action on armed violence prevention. This webinar provided a platform for peace advocates to share perspectives, highlight challenges, and identify solutions for preventing armed violence and fostering peace in Nigeria. Watch the recording here.
