This is straight-up gangster stuff, the “I’m gonna make him an offer he can’t refuse” kind of caricaturish criminal extortion that used to be the trademark of the mafia but is now a signature of this White House.

It’s always been like this, just not so blatant that USians who don’t see it willfully blind or gleefully complicit.
