Ukraine is a study in what happens to a denuclearized country. If Ukraine had a nuclear arsenal, many western powers would have been much faster to support Ukraine in order to keep their arsenal secure, as well as to de-escalate a major war between two nuclear powers. This assumes Russia would invade a nuclear power in the first place.
