In a video posted to X/Twitter, a British man on the street has had it out with a couple of high-vis flag shaggers:

Fair play to this guy. He’s absolutely spot. This is the Britain I love and know. pic.twitter.com/1ooNdpEAbH

While the man’s identity remains a mystery, he’s winning praise for the interaction up and down the country.

Getting into it

In the video above, our man on the street says:

You’re just out there just trying to spread hate. You’re trying to spread hate and you’re trying to spread stupidity, bro. That’s what you’re doing. You’re trying to spread fucking stupidity and trying to spread hate. How are you telling me you’ve got more in common with the dickhead in the suit that’s running this country than people who work alongside you, bro? You’ve got more in common with people who work alongside you, bro.

The flag shagger he’s shouting at complains he’s being shouted at, to which our man points at the erected flags and responds:

Bro, look, what is this? This is a form of shouting, bro.

He adds that:

If you didn’t want people here, we shouldn’t have gone there with a fucking… armada years ago and took everything from these people.

Giving his opinion on why our high-vis compatriots are putting flags up everywhere, he states:

You’re putting that up to try and fucking intimidate people.

People have responded positively to the video:

This is what true patriotism is about, he spoke straight up facts in the face of those two bigots. https://t.co/YSt6ERJrxi

This is really impressive.

“Half of the people that went to this ‘protect the people’ protest are on Claire’s Law for DV, on drugs charges and beating up their mrs and kids”

People dismissing him ‘coz tattoos and swearing’ wilfully ignore that he’s being really succinct. https://t.co/ZmabmFyfNG

We’re gonna say it – this isn’t just any man on the street – this is the man on the street.

Unless it turns out he’s an axe murderer or something, in which case we’re demoting him back down to regular man on the street.

Raise the Colours

The guy he was getting into it with was wearing a ‘Raise the Colours’ top. People have linked this movement to the far right because the movement’s organisers are notable far-right leaders, as HOPE not hate reported:

While many instances of flags being raised, or crosses being painted on roundabouts or walls, are being carried out by ordinary people inspired by posts on social media, the main organising force behind the campaign is “Operation Raise the Colours”.

HOPE not hate can reveal that the co-founder and organiser of the group is longtime Stephen Lennon (AKA Tommy Robinson) ally Andrew Currien (AKA Andy Saxon). Formerly a key member of the English Defence League’s leadership bodyguard team, and now running security for the far-right party Britain First, Currien has previously been jailed for his part in a racist death. He was one of six men convicted in 2009 after a 59-year-old man was crushed to death by a car following a violent brawl.

Manchester Mill ran a report on a prominent Raise the Colours operator in Manchester, reporting:

Nine years ago, Twamley was conducting a very different covert operation, as Hope Not Hate revealed. Rather than putting up flags across Manchester to protest unacceptably high levels of illegal immigration into Britain, he was sneaking around at the border in Coquelles, France, attempting to bring immigrants into Britain illegally.

In 2016, Twamley was stopped at the border. In the back of his Ford Connect van were four Vietnamese people he was attempting to smuggle into the country. He was later convicted for being part of a five-person illegal immigration operation and sentenced to 20 months in prison. At the time, Ben Thomas, of Immigration Enforcement’s crime team for the North West, said: “This shameless gang plotted to bring desperate people into the UK illegally purely for their own financial gain.”

They added:

recent T-Bone videos include this one, in which he appears to slap a woman across the face in Piccadilly Gardens following the recent Britain First march. A family member recently described T-Bone as a “woman beating, child beating rat” in a post on Facebook.

Intentions

Is everyone raising flags in England a convicted people smuggler and / or wife beater? Going off the amount of flags that are out there, they statistically couldn’t be (at least we hope not anyway – we’ve not crunched the numbers).

At the same time, it’s obvious this ‘operation’ is being driven by the far right, and their purpose is to drive a wedge between the white victims of billionaires and the Black and brown victims of billionaires. We can’t say if this is why the mega-wealthy are endorsing and funding this stuff, but we can draw your attention to it and let you make your own mind up.
