Veronica O’Keane, 66 years old , is a retired psychiatrist and professor of psychiatry (Trinity College Dublin). In the past decade she has advocated for marriage equality and reproductive rights in Ireland. As part of her public-facing activities she has organised national and international mental health and neuroscience events that have raised awareness of mood disorders, particularly in the area of perinatal depression. She has written over 100 original scientific paper and a book on memory, The Rag and Bone Shop (Allen Lane, Penguin, 2021). She has been committed to the Palestinian cause for decades and visited the occupied West Bank in 2019 on a fact-finding tour.
