No, they’re captive by the legal bribery of Citizens United. This is just one of the many fine consequences of that stellar idea.

I mean, there’s no way so many politicians and their staff are as incompetent as they seem. They’re paid to keep up the appearance of opposition to prevent any actual opposition from forming. But y’all knew this already, right?

      Ding ding ding

Actually, I think it’s both. They are mostly unconcerned with what happens to the actual country, after having been fattened on legalized bribery to the point that it’s unthinkable the idea of going to war with the people who “kindly” put them in the position they’re in, fund them, and solve problems for them. But also, that same circumstance has made them complacent, and blind to the idea that they could genuinely be in danger and lacking the courage to fight in this new war which is even more urgent than it was before (and it sure wasn’t unimportant before).

Look at Schumer’s reluctance to do the shutdown the first time around. He’s afraid to call the cops while people are literally in the house and ransacking it, because he doesn’t want to cause a commotion. They’re waking up, but terrifyingly slowly, and it will be far too late by the time they actually do anything. If I am placing faith in anything that is inside our governmental system right now, it is actually in state governors starting to band together and fight against what’s happening. Pritzger is trying to get it started but no one is really stepping up alongside him in a real way so far.
