US Capitol Police have been brought in after a Republican Congressman’s Washington office was caught with a swastika flag mounted on the wall, in the background of a video call.

The image was spotted during a call with Angelo Elia, an aide to Ohio Rep Dave Taylor, which clearly showed a hybrid ‘stars and stripes’ US flag merged with the nazi emblem:

Taylor claimed that the swastika had been an “optical illusion” and that he had concluded a “full scale investigation” by deciding that

no employee of this office would knowingly display such a despicable image, and the flag in question was taken down immediately upon the discovery of the obscured symbol it bore.

Republicans with swastikas galore, apparently

Taylor also claimed that other offices were also “targeted” by an “unidentified group or individual” who apparently were running around putting swastikas on the walls of elected congresspeople.

As CNN reported:

Taylor did not provide any evidence or name the other offices he said were affected. No other GOP offices had come forward publicly as of late Thursday to report similar incidents.

The flags were apparently sent by post to a number of Republican congressional offices, but no other politicians have admitted putting them up. This came a day after chat group messages showed Young Republicans across the US sending racist and antisemitic messages.

No disciplinary action has been announced against the staffer or the Congressman and the police are understood to have decided to take no further action.

Knowing the current Trump regime, it’s likely to lead to a promotion.
