Look up Yucca Mountain. We could have ended the debate on what to do with nuclear waste over two decades ago, but Nevada throws a NIMBY bitch-fit every time it’s brought up because; despite countless studies showing its safety, it’s location on federal land no where near anyone (it’s adjacent to the old nuclear bomb test sites), and the geological inertness of the area, it is still technically in Nevada and it’s still easy to scare idiots by going “NUCLEAR WASTE BAD!”.
