For the British right, attacking sick and disabled people is nothing new. While politicians have no problem smearing adults, however, they usually avoid targeting children in open debate. Grimly, Reform decided to shake things up:
Councils spend more than £2bn on special needs school transport

Kid staller
Let’s look at what Reform deputy leader Tice said:
This is not sustainable
Ignoring whether this is accurate, what’s his solution?
Realistically, there are only two options:
We remove access to school for children with special needs, robbing them of an education. We find some way to bring costs down.
The fact that Tice doesn’t specify which option he prefers gives the impression that it’s the former. After all, Tice is the head of Reform’s ‘DOGE’ project:

If you don’t know what ‘DOGE’ is, it’s Reform’s attempt to ape the US government’s Department of Government Efficiency, which was run by Elon Musk. Musk named it DOGE to mirror the DOGE ‘shitcoin‘, which itself was named after a meme depicting a surprised Shiba Inu:

These are the least serious people in the world.
Since Musk left office, it’s been widely accepted that his DOGE project was an abject failure. Musk didn’t attempt to identify smart savings; he simply cut government expenditure he didn’t like the look of. This resulted in ridiculous situations like the government having to quickly rehire crucial nuclear experts.
One DOGE employee actually said:
I personally was pretty surprised, actually, at how efficient the government was. This isn’t to say that it can’t be made more efficient — elimination of paper, elimination of faxing — but these aren’t necessarily fraud, waste and abuse.
Said employee was later given the boot because he spoke about what he’d been up to, having made the mistake of believing Elon Musk when he said DOGE would be “maximally transparent”.
Tice is very much in the Musk mould, in that he points at things which cost money and declares them ‘waste’. See this for instance:
Electric vehicle switch could leave Lincs Police with bill for millions
BONKERS
Not a penny should be wasted on Net Stupid Zero policing
Not should UK waste £8bn on police electric cars: imagine squad car running out of charge when chasing criminals https://t.co/CDpQVYV0H7

Does he think petrol cars are perpetual motion machines?
They’ll charge the cars before the shift starts, Richard – the same way they top up with petrol.
As we said, these are the least serious people in the world.
Reform aren’t in government yet, but they have focused their DOGE unit on the councils they run. As reported last week, however, they ‘haven’t found any waste‘.
Huh.
They arguably can’t be looking too hard, given that one Reform council announced a plan to spend tens of thousands of pounds on flags:
£75,000 for 164 flags.

In addition to this, several Reform politicians have requested that they get paid more – all despite running on a platform of bringing down costs.
No wonder Reform feel like they have to go after disabled kids; they need the fiscal headroom to pay for all the bonuses and bunting.
Could costs come down?
So here’s the other thing, councils definitely could bring costs down, but there’s a reason why Tice won’t want to admit that. Here’s what the Telegraph reported:
In October, The Telegraph also revealed that 24×7 group, a taxi firm that exclusively provides school transport for children with Send, had made almost £10m a year from local councils.
Additionally:
The Government has pledged to crack down on “excessive profit-making” in the Send sector amid concerns that private equity firms are making millions off the growing special needs crisis in Britain.
Oh look, it turns out the culprit was rampant privatisation all along; who could have seen that coming?
You won’t see Tice saying this, because Reform are privatisation fetishists. As such, it’s best for him to set his rabid followers on disabled kids instead.
Absolute shithouses.
