New cases seeking compensation for loss and damage have been launched against fossil fuel and cement companies in the U.K. and Germany on behalf of people in the Philippines and Pakistan who suffered through devastating typhoons and floods.

As the fossil fuel industry and its political allies ramp up attempts to shut down climate liability initiatives in the United States, large carbon-emitting companies are facing mounting legal claims in Europe from individuals on the frontlines of the worsening climate crisis.
