The massive development cycle of something like RDR2 or Cyberpunk 2077 lead to an immersive experience that is less about quick fun and more about becoming a character within a world separate from your own. I know multiple people who play only games like this.
On the other hand, sometimes you just want a game that is all about the gameplay, no worrying about story, or lengthy, actionless experiences. Some people only want to play games like this and that’s also totally fine.
