To download a 100GB game, that’s around 2h23min.
Sure, once you’ve got it downloaded on one device, you can copy it to another device, but with things like going out and about etc, popping the SD card is a really handy feature.
For instance I have a game on my Steam Deck that isn’t on my desktop and my partner wanted to play on their Steam Deck (family sharing libraries).
I just handed her the SD card out of my Deck and she could play it right away without me needing to turn on my Deck and let her download (local download is also only possible if the source device isn’t downloading its own updates from Steam).
They’re definitely up to something funky with their engine but whether what they’re working on will see the light of day, we can’t be sure.
