I really think if the Democrats united behind a sincere “get money out of politics” message, they’d blow Republicans out of the water and secure majorities for decades. Maybe that’s just the hopium talking. Either way, too many of them don’t want to get behind anti-corruption.

because while the democrats are better than the republicans, all they care about is getting the bag

I don’t think most run for office to make money, but once you’re in then the donations start rolling and if a little makes it to your wallet what’s the harm? Then you’re lost.

I assume the general pipeline is

          • I’m gonna make a difference!
          • The system is broken and I can’t make a difference.
          • May as well get my nut.

Doesn’t absolve them of being corrupt, of course.

I agree this sentiment would be a unifying one for Americans of all stripes, but I just can’t ever see democrats seriously adopting this. They’ve been chasing the corporate donor money for 50 years now, and it has radically curtailed their effectiveness. So much so that most rational people view them as nothing more than controlled opposition.

I think a 3rd party focused on populism, if it recruits a few Justice Dems and America 1st purists as highly visible leadership, is the answer.
