israel has made the word toothless and without meaning.

Please don’t take this as combative, as I really only seek to understand…
How separated is the institution of the Jewish religion from the state of Israel?
I can only relate this to my own experience, but if, say, the Vatican decided that all Italians needed to go in order to expand the “Catholic State,” then the Catholic Diocese of the world would fall in line and support that vision, because there is a direct relationship between the Vatican state and every Catholic Diocese that it controls.
In the same way, the US embassies around the world are beholden to the US state. Why would people NOT protest at their local embassies to ensure that the effects and intent of that protest reaches the US mainland
Can you fully separate any single synagogue from the state of Israel? Are they independent?

Thank you. I feel like I’ve received a bit more context than I previously had. I suppose my take on this issue stanced specifically by Mamdani/Adams is that violence at protests is already illegal, regardless of the message, location, or means. Adams’ justification seems to fall short for me, and that staging an anti-war protest at a synagogue is not necessarily a bad-faith move if the message is to each and every Rabbi and other faith-leaders, calling on them individually to denounce Israel for their means in this conflict. Applying pressure with maintaining that Zionism is not Judaism, as you say. Does that feel antisemitic?
