It’s good to see bipartisan pressure still in stopping this order.
I don’t really agree with the reasoning a lot of conservatives are using to stop it. It is an insanely costly program, but it is bound to fail as the underlying cause of the Barred Owl territorial expansion is poor and unenforced regulations on the timber industry and the development of land with no regard to environmental impact.
I would have liked to read the linked article about the loggers arguments against it to see how this would impact the BLM regulations associated with the owl destruction order, as it probably mentions associated legal loopholes being created that allow the destruction of irreplaceable old growth forest. That is pay-walled though, and I was unable to find it anywhere else.
Not a fan of Kennedy for a number of reasons, and while I do believe he thinks owls are superb, I feel this is likely more about having to pay for something that benefits the “liberal” West Coast and not Louisiana. With attacks on FEMA’s existence, I’m sure he’d like a trillion unallocated dollars come the next few hurricanes.
