  • It’s good to see bipartisan pressure still in stopping this order.

I don’t really agree with the reasoning a lot of conservatives are using to stop it. It is an insanely costly program, but it is bound to fail as the underlying cause of the Barred Owl territorial expansion is poor and unenforced regulations on the timber industry and the development of land with no regard to environmental impact.

I would have liked to read the linked article about the loggers arguments against it to see how this would impact the BLM regulations associated with the owl destruction order, as it probably mentions associated legal loopholes being created that allow the destruction of irreplaceable old growth forest. That is pay-walled though, and I was unable to find it anywhere else.

Not a fan of Kennedy for a number of reasons, and while I do believe he thinks owls are superb, I feel this is likely more about having to pay for something that benefits the “liberal” West Coast and not Louisiana. With attacks on FEMA’s existence, I’m sure he’d like a trillion unallocated dollars come the next few hurricanes.

  • It was hard to post today, but I told myself that I still wanted to try to give you guys what I could, so I put up some of the best I had in my stash of posts.

I try to keep politics out of it, but as I focus on habitat preservation and animal protections, it’s hard to stay totally out of it.

I do have stuff ready to start Owl of the Year. I was going to do a preliminary round this week, but I’m going to let people deal with their emotions for a couple days, I think.

To anyone feeling nervous by the results, know I care about of all you guys, and most of the people I love are potentially affected as well. Anyone who cares about nature is always welcome to come and enjoy the owls with me.
