North Carolina Republicans pass new congressional map, likely gaining extra seat in 2026 midterms. Democrats decry rigged maps. Protesters chant for fair elections.
Ok that was mean, but the game is up, get the hell out of red states, your literal life depends on it. Republicans want to hurt you and centrist Democrats will stand back and argue for hurting you but doing so with decorum.
However, not every North Carolina Republican is on board with the scheme, as US Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) on Wednesday told Spectrum News‘ Reuben Jones that he supported having independent redistricting panels, and warned his party that their scheme could have unintended consequences.
“You need to be careful,” said Tillis, who is not seeking reelection. “North Carolina is a purple state… if you go a little bit further, you could get surprised in an election cycle, and [it will] not go your way. So just be careful what you wish for!”
Be careful? What??? Does Tillis know who he is talking about? The carelessness is a vital aspect of the aesthetic that makes fascism popular.
I think he is saying that the gerrymandering will make the margins of victory tighter for all of the GOP seats, so if the voter turnout is different than they expect then it could backfire and GOP could lose seats
I know but Republicans pride themselves on handing loaded guns to kids and lecturing them about personal responsibility, my point is they don’t give a flying fuck if things backfire, we are so past that point of commitment from Republicans to fascism in this country the opportunity for things to backfire is not something many Republican voters are capable of comprehending at this stage of their brainworms. All they see or want is blood and what you are saying is “more blood might happen!”.
If this backfires, that is great for Republicans as they can use it as an excuse to completely get rid of voting. That is where we are at, make no mistake.
The problem with that approach is that it’s exactly what they want. Less liberal voters, more votes for them and more power. Should we expand the same idea to the country and just let them win by leaving? I get it, they change the rules, ignore the rules, or get rid of the rules and life becomes dangerous for those who oppose them. But maybe this is the fire to change things that’s been missing and has gotten us into a complacency of “well, maybe next voting cycle”. NC isn’t a shithole, it’s just the people that are in control there making it that way. Why should they get to win?
Look I get that, and I am sure there are nice parts to North Carolina but you are making a broad political argument, whereas I am warning people they are in physical danger.
Let the state be drained of hardworking smart people until the state comes back begging for scraps. I am not saying don’t vote and don’t fight but the “stay and fight” argument feels like it condemns the one life you have to being crushed to pieces for some abstracted principle that may be structurally futile.
Things are going to get much worse before they get better and I can’t in good conscience say “stay and fight!” to people in red states.
I do think it’s a personal decision, and I don’t fault those who feel they have to secure their lives. But as someone who has ancestry in this country who in different generations did sacrifice all they had for what may have seemed to them abstract concepts that weren’t guarantees, it’s hard to just leave and let it burn down. Not all battles are winnable, but some have to be won to win the war. So decide where the line is for yourself and importantly, act now. Waiting for the fight to come to you usually doesn’t work well.
Time to move the hell outa that shithole.

That’s what happens when you cheat. You may win in the short term, but it could come back and bite you. Also, fuck Tillis.
NC was already gerrymandered too so this can not help them in a blue wave. Assuming they don’t just purge the rolls or worse
